This project, located in a historical preserved building in Hong Kong, serves a dual purpose of a gallery and a tea house, split half and half. All construction cannot touch the historic walls, so the pantry and storage becomes the wrap around that cushions the main functions. The tea house, traditionally raised on a platform, is accessed with a stepping stone, and provides storage below, while resting on a felt underlay so the entire construction floats on the historic floor.

Starting from a traditional pine bonsai contrasting a 3D printed rock as the reception desk, everything plays on duality. The gallery and tea house are equal size. Sliding doors allow separation as well as connection as needed. The tea house is designed with straight guidelines from Japanese tradition and is used for teaching tea ceremonies, while the gallery is designed for flexible display of contemporary paintings or ceramics. The reception desk doubles up as a meeting table.
